Regional Centers of Excellence
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Biodefense Network has established the Regional Centers of Excellence (RCEs) for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research. The overall goals of the RCE program are to develop and maintain a strong infrastructure and to support multifaceted research and development activities that will provide the scientific information leading to the next generation of therapeutics, vaccines and diagnostics against NIAID Category A, B and C priority pathogens. The RCEs are distributed into ten geographically dispersed regions to optimize research capacity across the United States and simultaneously prepare for potential events.
